Currently, physical inactivity is costing the lives of 2,500 Scots and £91 million annually.  Beat the Street is a fun, free game for the community to see how far they can walk, cycle and run around their towns and around the world and has a track record of delivering high community engagement.

A partnership programme between Dumfries and Galloway Council, NHS Dumfries and Galloway, Intelligent Health and third sector, the initiative aims to promote sustainable travel and increase levels of physical activity for health and wellbeing. Evidence confirms the health benefits of physical activity across the life-course and Beat the Street delivers an inclusive and accessible programme built on strong community engagement supporting participation regardless of age or gender. Results confirm that 39% of the population of Annan and 37% of the population of Dalbeattie are participating in the programme with the number of unique participants surpassing 5000 – the highest ever participation rates seen by Intelligent Health.
