One of the key objectives within Glasgow City Council’s Local Transport Strategy (LTS) is to ‘promote healthy and environmentally sustainable methods of transport that minimise harmful emissions and energy consumption including those that involve physical activity’ and the promotion of cycling is seen as a key component in meeting this aim.

The project team within Land and Environmental Services (LES) has managed the delivery of significant new cycling infrastructure and organised a number of high profile promotional campaigns. This has resulted in a significant increase in cyclists travelling within the city over the last 5 years showing that Glasgow is making progress in encouraging it citizen’s to cycle thus improving their health and wellbeing and contributing towards a reduction in CO2 emissions.
