South Lanarkshire Council and NHS Lanarkshire
“First Steps Lanarkshire”
Women expecting their first babies and new mums from some of South Lanarkshire’s poorest areas are being helped to ensure their children get off to the best possible start in life – thanks to the First Steps Programme. This Fairer Scotland Funded backed project from NHS Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire Council’s Regeneration Partnership provides intensive one-to-one support to mums in their own homes to enable them to provide lifestyles for their families that are nurturing, healthy, happy and stimulating. There are already signs that this programme is making a very positive impact among the 84 families participating who live in the most deprived datazones within the Blantyre, Larkhall, Rutherglen, Cambuslang and Hamilton areas.

ABOUT THE CATEGORY:
This category stands apart from the other categories because it seeks to recognise innovative projects which as may not have evidence of results. These projects may be at a very early stage, but must have been approved and ‘ready to go’. The main criteria for this category is that projects must have the potential to deliver substantial results by bringing new ideas or approaches to resolve recognised problems.
