The City of Edinburgh (CEC) Parks & Greenspace (P&G) and Neighbourhood services illustrate how to successfully drive improvements across a council’s open space “estate” using matrix working as an innovative means to widen service ownership, bring the service closer to people and embed quality based performance.

From a standing start we now know what greenspaces we have, how good they are, what people think about them, and what they want from them. We are now meeting customer needs, delivering innovative and highly effective greenspace services, and becoming internally and externally recognised as being a top performing, evidence based, innovative and continually evolving service that responds with professionalism and enthusiasm to what customers want. Moreover, all this has been achieved on a “more for less” basis.
