Fife Council Education and Learning Directorate and NHS Fife have responded to local data and research based evidence by developing a positive, non-stigmatising and supportive approach to tackling very high rates of unplanned teenage pregnancy and STIs recorded in Kirkcaldy. Working within Kirkcaldy High School, health and education colleagues together deliver a sophisticated programme of sex and relationships education, a contraception and pregnancy testing service in school and highly effective signposting to specialist services for young people. This is an innovative delivery model which is effectively tackling teenage pregnancy and infection rates and contributing to a culture change in the community served by Kirkcaldy High School. The school’s values are “Respect for Self, Respect for Others and Respect for Learning”. The resulting partnership promotes and grows these values at community level in a highly practical way.
