Many applicants have questions about what makes a good application, and how to take part in the awards process.  We’ve compiled a list of Frequently Asked Questions to help.

1. Can I submit an application for a project that I have applied for in previous years?

Yes.  Your are welcome to apply to the awards regarding a project that you have put forward previously, provided that it did not win.   Indeed, feedback from our assessors often suggests that projects have the potential to score highly once they have matured further.

2. Does the size of the project matter?

Your application can relate to a project or work of any size. We’ll make our decision based on how successfully you have met your objectives- we’re not assessing the scale of your success but the approach you have taken to overcoming obstacles and the impact that you have had.  However, projects that have made a substantial difference will inevitably score highly.

3. Does the application have to evidence results that have already been achieved ?

It’s very important to balance innovation with sound approaches and actual or projected results.  Your application needs to relate to changes or improvements that are currently taking place, or to a project that has been completed but is now delivering results.  However, we are keen to recognise new projects that are helping to prepare for the future and so the potential deliver results is just as important as the actual results delivered.

4. How much does the language that I use matter?

The application form is limited to 3 pages, and you therefore need to be focussed and precise in the information that you provide.  We cannot accept any additional information, but we’ll ask you to clarify anything that is not clear. 

We assess your project through the application form, and therefore while a high quality submission is essential, we seek to base our assessment on more than just the words you use.  However, remember that assessors don’t know your organisation or project so plain English and the avoidance of acronyms will help the submission.

5. How many applications can I submit ?

The awards are limited to strictly 2 applications per category per organisation.

6. Can I get involved in the assessment process ?

We are always on the look out for people who have the skills and experience to help us long leet the awards.  We keep a database and would like to hear from you.  Please email adam.stewart@cosla.gov.uk.

7. Do I have to pay to enter the awards ?

No, it’s  completely free to apply.  Short leeted applicants are also offered complementary tickets for the awards ceremony.

8. Can I send a case study instead of completing the application form?

No, all applications must follow the application form, and need to be submitted electronically. 

9. How do I know if I’m short leeted?

We contact all applicants when we have agreed our long and short leet.  Our  events team will contact you if you are short leeted to arrange the presentation to the judges, and will be on hand to answer any questions.

10. Will I get feedback?

Yes.  All applicants get feedback on their application.  We have improved our feedback forms to reflect the information that you said was useful.  Short leeted applicants will get feedback before presenting to the judging panel.  All other feedback is distributed after the awards are announced.
