A number of good practice publications specifically recommend that the most effective way to deliver services for pregnant women with problem substance misuse, is by an integrated multi-disciplinary team which includes dedicated staff from maternity, neonatal, child health, substance misuse and social work services.
The PrePare service aims to ensure effective care management and coordination by bringing together a specialist and multi-disciplinary team based in one location.
The PrePare team is made up of; 1 manager; 2 specialist addictions community mental health nurses; 1 specialist midwife; 1.5 nursery officers; 1 senior nursery officer; 1 specialist health visitor and 1 part time administrator.
Since July 2006 PrePare have worked with 203 women, who at point of referral are assessed as high risk, due to their problem substance misuse and associated lifestyle.
