The Advice in Primary Care (AIPC) Service provides advice and practical assistance in Renfrewshire’s GP surgeries and health centres, targeting vulnerable groups who may not otherwise access these services due to ill health, lack of transport or lack of knowledge about benefits or welfare rights. This unique and new approach to Renfrewshire Financial Inclusion Services has very much been a partnership approach delivering an enhanced service provision for those most ‘at risk’ to the effects of the credit crunch and economic downturn. During a period of increased demand for money advice services, this programme has ensured an innovative service response with increased capacity and accessibility of money advice and information. This has been demonstrated by the significant additional outcomes delivered by the AIPC service during April 2009 to September 2010; support and advice to 285 clients, with debt under management of £665,633, and income generated/other financial gain of £469,160 for Renfrewshire residents.
