Fife Council – Zero Waste Fife

Submitted by on March 4, 2010 – 10:35 pmNo Comment

Fife Council (FC) is the first and only Local Authority in Scotland to commit to land filling zero municipal waste, setting new standards in waste strategy, management and partnership working. Using bold and innovative projects, many of which are ‘firsts’ in their own right, the Zero Waste (ZW) Project is delivering continuous improvement in waste management, with outcomes that compare favourably with the best in the UK and on target to compare with the best in Europe. Membership of the Group includes key external partners, Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) and Waste Aware Scotland (WAS). FC has gained widespread customer support for its waste and recycling service with 80 % of those surveyed believing that the service is “good” or “very good”, and with large internal customers agreeing to the prohibition of landfilling construction and horticultural wastes from October 2009.
