The COSLA Excellence Awards celebrate the very best in Scottish local government. Our emphasis is on rewarding the most innovative and passionate developments, and on recognising projects that are changing lives. We find those who are setting new standards and spread their good practice. If you have a project that has made a difference, we want to hear about it.

The 2013 COSLA Chair’s Award, SOLACE Best Team, and Scottish Government Award for Excellence.
Scottish Borders, Inverclyde, West Dunbartonshire, Dundee City, West Lothian and North Lanarkshire Councils all took first place in the main categories of the Awards. South Lanarkshire Council and its partners scooped the Chairman’s Award, while the SOLACE Best Team Award went to a joint project by Angus and North Lanarkshire Councils. A ground breaking partnership led by Renfrewshire Council was recognised for Delivering Excellence by the Scottish Government.
COSLA President Councillor David O’Neill, who chaired the judging panel, described the entries for the awards this year as inspiring:
“These winners sum up what Scottish local government is all about- innovative and joined up services, delivered by hard working staff, that are changing lives every day.”
Councillor O’Neill continued: “Public services in Scotland have to deal with fewer resources while demand for their services is rising fast. At every stage of the Awards it’s been clear to me that councils and their partners are breaking new ground in how they are rising to that challenge. We have witnessed some incredible projects, and the results are already speaking for themselves. Above all, I have been struck by the utter determination and passion that council workers and our partners have for improving outcomes for their communities. All those who took part should be very proud indeed.
“Now more than ever before, it’s vital that we build on real life success stories like these. The 2013 COSLA Excellence Awards are helping to do just that, and on the evidence so far, the future of Scotland’s local services looks very exciting.”

‘The Street’ uses hard hitting, immersive theatre to discourage young people from engaging in anti-social or damaging behaviour by exploring the potential damage it can do to themselves and others.
The “Street Stuff” initiative is a partnership approach by Renfrewshire’s Community Planning Partnership to provide youth diversionary activities in identified hotspot areas at key times and venues.
